Shoes….

I just got back from shoe shopping. It was not fun like I imagined. There were some cute shoes and then there was something on them to make them not cute, or at least, not me. I saw two pairs of shoes in the entire store that I liked. But I didn’t get either. I’m going to check online and maybe go to a different store to see if there’s different shoes at a different location.

I have wide feet, so that means a lot of what the store has I can’t even consider. Sometimes I get lucky and find a shoe in my size that’s wide enough to fit and not hurt but that’s rare. And it’s kinda depressing not to be able to easily find a good shoe that fits.

I have two in mind, I hope I can get them.

This morning’s outfit

It was cold this morning so I decided I would wear my jilbab. It was great, it didn’t slide around, it stayed in place. That was something I was worried about, I was worried it was going to slide off my head!

I took the kids to school then stopped at the store to get some laundry detergent, didn’t get any weird looks or anything. I’m so glad I bought it, no regrets with this.

I wore a coat over it, and I felt so comfortable in it, I wasn’t worried about if I was covered completely, or properly, I didn’t question myself on that. Here’s how it looked, though I wore my coat buttoned because I was cold:

I’ve been busy

The last several weeks have been keeping me quite busy. I participated in this years GISHWHES contest and LOVED it. I had so much fun! Now we’re waiting to find out what team won. I would like to do it again next year but if they hold it at the same time, I don’t think I will.

I’m still working on my story, slowly but surely. I’m just happy to be writing something, even if I can’t work on it as much as I would like.

Also, yesterday the mailman delivered a few new patterns. I found this blog, http://www.makethislook.com/ and love it. I love ModCloth, but honestly a lot of their stuff is just too expensive for me. So I’ve been looking into making some of my own versions of their dresses. Right now I’m working on this, http://www.makethislook.com/post/6590999619/via-make-this-look-night-and-day-dress-the-sew in completely different fabric right now for the first one, to see how it turns out and to use up some of the fabric I already have before I buy more. Then I want to make a copy of the dress on Make this Look.

And now I must get back to what I was doing before I took a little break to write a post. I’ll try to post progress pictures of my dress when I get the chance!

Various Thoughts

So, wearing a different hijab every day for a week was fun. Hope you enjoyed my pictures!

I’ve been working on my writing, slowly but surely. I had six chapters finished, then I changed events in chapter 3 which then everything else had to be changed as well. That’s alright though, because what I originally wrote didn’t really fir the character.

Eid al Adha is coming up soon, and I was hoping to make myself a fancy ribbon top to wear, but I probably won’t have time for that. Maybe something else, though.

I started re-reading ‘My Name is Red’ by Orhan Pamuk, it is so beautifully written. I’ love it. Though, to be honest, I did not like it when I tried to read it last year. For some reason I didn’t realize each chapter is narrated by a different character. So I set it aside for a while and finally went back to start over. I’m so glad I did.

So Many Scarves

I seem to have quite the collection of hijabs. I have decided to try to wear a different one each day this week, I know, that’s not a long time but usually I will wear the same two or three over and over. But since I have so many, I should wear them or let them go. I’ll try to take a picture of them each day and post it. Maybe I’ll extend the time to two weeks. I don’t know.
